About the course

Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses is a comprehensive educational programme specifically created for registered nurses who want to enhance their expertise in managing patients with multiple traumatic injuries.

ATCN learners take part in facilitated ATLS discussions and nursing-focused skill stations that reinforce trauma assessment, intervention, prioritisation, and decision-making in high-acuity situations.

The course uses a hands-on, scenario-based approach to adult learning, giving participants the opportunity to apply ATLS and ATCN concepts during practical testing with moulaged patients.

Participants receive both an ATCN manual and an ATLS manual.

Skill stations and learning focus

ATCN learners participate in nursing-focused skills stations that include:

  • Initial assessment and management
  • Airway, breathing, and ventilation
  • Circulation and haemorrhage control
  • Disability, including head, spine, and musculoskeletal injury
  • Paediatric trauma
  • Special populations

These sessions are built around interactive and practical learning to help nurses translate trauma principles into real patient care situations.

Important preparation note

Participants are expected to review both the ATCN and ATLS texts before class in order to successfully participate in the course.
