About the workshop

This practical workshop is designed to help primary care nurses refresh core competencies, build confidence, and stay up to date with current best practice.

The session explores both clinical and non-clinical areas essential to everyday practice, with a focus on usable tools, patient-centred care, communication, and scenario-based learning.

If you attended last year’s workshop, the organiser encourages you to invite a colleague this year so your practice can share both repeated essential skills and new learning across the team.

Places are limited, and practice limits apply.

A maximum of two nurses per practice may attend to help ensure fair access across the region.

Advance your knowledge

The workshop includes focused learning across key areas of primary care, including:

  • Smoking and vaping cessation, including brief interventions and support tools
  • ADHD in general practice, including GP management, workflow changes, and the Practice Nurse role
  • Asthma and respiratory care, including lung sounds, spirometry, puffers, and spacers
  • Cardiovascular care and ECGs, including atrial fibrillation, chest pain, myocardial infarction recognition, and risk factors
  • Diabetes technology, including practical insights into Continuous Glucose Monitoring
  • Clinical deterioration and emergencies through adult and paediatric scenario-based learning

Attendees will also take part in hands-on sessions covering practical skills such as:

  • Basic life support
  • Cannulation
  • Venepuncture
  • Anaphylaxis management

The workshop includes communication and escalation strategies that support safer, more effective care in primary care settings.
