Albany State University

In 2017, the University merged with Darton State College, increasing the size of the student population. The university is structured into five different colleges including the Darton College of Arts and Sciences (DCAAS), which houses 65 percent of students; Darton College of Business Administration and Public Service (CBAPS) which houses 25 percent of students; DSU School for Graduate Studies (SGSP) which house 10 percent or less than one thousand students in nine master's degree programs, a Doctorate program in Counseling Psychology, as well as an online graduate certificate program in Community Mental Health; Albany State University-Albany Campus (ASC); Darton Online Learning Center.

Albany State University is a public institution with an HBCU status. It was founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute, and merged with Darton State College in 2017 to form the largest of three HBCUs in Georgia. The university has five colleges: Business, Education, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Science & Mathematics, and Nursing & Health Sciences. ASU offers more than sixty undergraduate degrees for its diverse student body.

Albany State University is the oldest public, historically black university in Georgia and offers degrees in over 150 fields of study. ASU has a large student population with an undergraduate enrollment of more than 6,000 students. The school also boasts nationally recognized programs that have been ranked among the best in the country. 

This includes their nursing program which was ranked as one of the top 10 nursing schools by U.S News & World Report for 2018-19 and 2019-20 ranking periods.

In 1885, The Presbyterian Church founded Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute as a school to train African-American ministers and laypersons. In 1903, the school became one of three colleges established by the newly formed Board of Trustees for Colored Schools in the state's segregated education system - alongside Howard College (now known as Morehouse College) in Atlanta and Fort Valley State College (now known as Fort Valley State.

ASU offers over 80 undergraduate programs including all six engineering disciplines offered by UGA's College of Engineering; these are: Chemical Engineering- Biomedical Engineering- Electrical and Computer Engineering- Industrial Systems Engineering - Mechanical Engineering - Civil and Environmental Engineering.
