Augusta University is a public 4-year college in Augusta, Georgia. It was established in 1785 as the Academy of Richmond County, and became Augusta College in 1873 and then the State Normal School for Women at Augusta College in 1909. In 1922, it then became part of the University System of Georgia, first known as Augusta State Teachers College before becoming Augusta State University on July 1, 1996. The school's current president is Dr. Brooks Keel who has been serving since June 2015.

The university offers its students many opportunities to succeed academically while also exploring their interests outside the classroom with over 120 student organizations and seven major athletic programs including baseball, basketball (men's/women's), golf (men's)
