The college was originally founded as Jewish Hospital School of Nursing on August 6th 1902 by Dr. Sarah Goldfarb (daughter of founder Isaac M. Goldfarb) with 7 students enrolled and just 3 faculty members; it became the first school to be nationally accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN). The Barnes Hospital School of Nursing opened its doors October 18th 1955 with 200 students enrolled at this time.

Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing is a private college in Saint Louis, Missouri and part of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The school features an open admission/open enrollment policy with nursing degrees available through bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. It is one of only two schools in the country that offers both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at 100% female student enrollment. Founded in 1902 as the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing (first nursing school to be accredited by National League for Nursing), it merged with the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing (established 1955) to form what we now know as Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing.
