The school was founded by Dr. John D'Angelo in 1969 as the first extension campus for what would later become California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB). The campus is located on 196 acres at the intersection of the 215 and 210 freeways just east of Interstate 10, amid miles of undeveloped desert land.

Casa Loma College is a Catholic, co-educational school in Hawthorne, California. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1956, Casa Loma College offers college preparatory and liberal arts education to students from diverse backgrounds.
