The history of the college began in 1907 with the founding of Burge Deaconess Training School for Nurses.
The college expanded rapidly in the second half of the twentieth century, with more than 2500 nurses earning diplomas from school by 1996 when it was renamed Lester L. Cox College of Nursing & Health Sciences. In 1997, Cox’s BSN program became one of only three schools to offer an RN to Bachelor's Degree Completion Program (RN-BSN).
