Davenport offers degrees in business administration, accounting, education, health professions and human services. The school was founded in 1881 as the Detroit Business Institute by Henry B. Joyner to provide vocational training for African-Americans seeking employment opportunities during an era of racial inequality. Today the Midland campus continues to strive to make higher education accessible for all students with a tuition rate that is among the lowest of any private college or university in Michigan and across the country.
