Institute of Medical Education

The Institute of Medical Education is a public institution that focuses on preparing its students for careers in the health care industry. The school prepares its students to work as registered nurses, dental assistants, medical assistants, and more. Students have many opportunities to get involved with extracurricular activities such as volunteering at local hospitals or joining one of their student clubs.

Institute of Medical Education is one of the public 2-year colleges in California. We are proud to offer a wide range of programs, certificates and degrees that lead to transfer or career opportunities for students interested in healthcare careers.

Institute of Medical Education was founded in 1948 as a direct response to the need for physicians and nurses during World War II. Originally, medical education in California served only those who were able to travel from out-of-state. 

Our founders created an institution with a mission that focused on increasing access to health care training and educating students throughout California so they could return home to provide quality care where it is needed most. Today, IME offers associate degrees in nursing (RN), dental hygiene (RDH), emergency medical technician (EMT) paramedicine, surgical technology (RST).

The Institute of Medical Education is a public two-year college in California. The institute offers certificate and degree programs that are designed to provide students with the skills needed for employment in the medical field. 

We have over 100 courses that cover topics such as health care, biotechnology, nursing, dental hygiene, radiology technology and more! Founded on the principles of teaching and service to underserved populations, IME strives to foster an inclusive environment for all learners by promoting collaboration between faculty members from diverse backgrounds.
