Montreat College is a private, not-for-profit 4 year college located in Montreat. Founded in 1912 by Dr. Henry C. Taylor as the Asheville Bible School for Women, it was acquired and renamed by the trustees of Presbyterian Church USA's Montreat Conference Center in 1919. The campus is surrounded on three sides by mountains and has been described as "one of the most beautiful settings for a college anywhere."

Students at Montreat are encouraged to develop their own interests with an individualized curriculum and explore various areas of study such as business leadership, environmental science or sustainable development, nursing (RN), music performance, psychology/counseling sciences, Spanish language & culture studies.
