Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) is a private Catholic university founded in 1925. It was originally established primarily for female students and continues to enroll mostly women. In fact, about 95% of undergrad students are female. The school has expanded over the years and now includes two campuses in Brentwood and Doheny near downtown LA. However, the campuses are set in a rural area with gorgeous scenery. In 2017, MSMU was recognized by Money Magazine as the top US college for value and ranked number one by the New York Times for private colleges that offer economic mobility to students.

The nursing program has been offered since 1928. The BSN program is a three-year program that requires students to complete prerequisite classes through other colleges or universities. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam and qualify to earn a California Public Health Nursing Certificate. As MSMU is located near downtown LA, students have the opportunity to earn real-world experience at busy Los Angeles-area hospitals.

Along with the traditional BSN program, MSMU offers an RN to BSN program, an accelerated BSN program, and an MSN program with four specialty tracks, including Nurse Educator, Leadership and Administration, Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, and a Post-MSN Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate. All programs are accredited by the CCNE.
