The college was founded by Dr. James Murphy Sr., who had previously served on the faculty at Loyola University Medical Center, Illinois Institute of Technology and Northwestern University Medical School before opening his own practice in 1955.
In 1987, with help from Murphy's son James Jr., it became affiliated with Loyola University; they remain so today but are now an independent entity that also offers online courses through its distance education program.Northbrook has been educating students to work within the health care industry for over.
