Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University is a private not-for-profit university in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was founded by Dr. Samuel L. Stanley Jr., who wanted to create an institution that would "offer the best of both worlds" for students: the small college experience and the resources of a large research university. 

NSU has grown from its first class of 9 students to over 20,000 today - with more than 700 faculty members on staff and almost 2 million square feet of building space spread across three campuses (Fort Lauderdale, Davie, and online). Nova offers undergraduate degrees in up to 74 majors as well as graduate programs with concentrations in education, business administration/management information systems (MBA), nursing (MSN)

Nova Southeastern University was established in 1964 and is one of the sixty-six private, not-for-profit 4-year colleges in Florida. The campus is located in a suburb, Fort Lauderdale. 

According to the NCES 2017 report, a total of 20,793 students attend NSU. In the 2017 fall enrollment, 987 freshman enrolled and approximately 780 students returned for their sophomore year (which makes its freshman retention rate 79%). Every year 52% of the graduating class graduates in 150% of time it takes to complete their studies.

Nova was founded as "Southeastern College" by Drs. Walter and Leonore Annenberg on June 20th, 1964 with an enrollment of just 100 students and six full-time faculty members. 

They sought to establish a college that would provide an alternative to traditional universities for young people who could benefit from more individualized attention than they might receive at large institutions like the nearby University of Miami or Florida State University. In 1966, the name changed to Nova College; it became Nova Southeastern University after receiving its university charter on November 9th
