Founded in 1906 and originally known as Pace Institute of Liberal Arts, the school was renamed after John D. Rockefeller's youngest daughter Anna Eleanor (1884–1948) and her husband, George A. Pardee (1874–1944). The school's motto—which it shares with all other schools that have been founded by or have subsequently become part of the "Pace system"—is "Truth Seeking Through Mutual Understanding."
