Research College of Nursing

The Research College of Nursing provides a quality education in nursing and is one of the oldest colleges for nurses. The college was founded in 1886, when German Hospital opened its doors and offered training courses to nurses. In 1905, the hospital established the German Hospital Training School for Nurses. As war broke out during World War I, both institutions changed their names to avoid any connection with Germany or any thoughts about the war.

 After that time, they expanded and developed a reputation as a place where students can get an excellent education in nursing from qualified instructors who put emphasis on learning through hands-on experiences rather than lectures alone. One of the first BSN programs (1980) began at RCN while another accelerated BSN program (1991).

Research College of Nursing values the uniqueness and individuality of each student. We offer a variety of degree programs to meet your goals in nursing, including RN, BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD programs. Our faculty are experienced leaders who embrace innovation in teaching and research. The college was founded as German Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1905 by Dr. Otto Frieseke and his wife Clara; it has since grown into an institution with more than 100 years of history that is dedicated to providing quality education to future nurses.

In 1992, RCOM launched its Doctoral Program as well as Master's Programs in five areas: Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner; Clinical Nurse Specialist; Family Nurse Practitioner; Health Systems Management; Nursing Education.

 In 1992, Research Medical Foundation assumed ownership from Catholic Health Systems/St Francis Xavier Parish Health Center (now SSM St Francis).
