Texas Woman's University

Texas Woman's University is a public university in Denton, Texas. Founded by the Union Baptist Association of Denton in 1894 as an all-female institution, TWU offers bachelor's and master's degrees through its five colleges: College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), College of Business Administration (CBA), Jane Addams School of Social Work (JASSW), College of Education (COE) and the Graduate School.

We are Texas Woman's University, and we're one of the 43 public 4-year colleges in Texas. We're located in Denton and offer a diverse array of programs including business administration, nursing, education, humanities and social sciences, criminal justice among others. Our campus is found in an urban area which makes it accessible for students who live outside of the city or nearby suburbs.Our mission is to provide opportunities that empower women through inclusive excellence with distinctive teaching, research and service to meet societal needs by realizing our vision: "Texas Woman's University – A Defining Voice."

It is the only public institution of higher education in North Texas that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees exclusively to women. With more than 15,000 students from all 50 states and over 100 countries worldwide, TWU is one of the largest universities in the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area.The university was founded by an all-woman board of directors on March 27th 1884 as the Girls Industrial College (GIC). The name became Texas State Female Normal School after it received its first legislative appropriation from the state legislature that same year. In 1890, its official name changed to "Normal Department for Women.
