The University of Texas at El Paso is a public university in El Paso, established in 1914. The school started as the State School of Mines and Metallurgy before expanding their offerings to include 71 undergraduate programs and 76 master’s programs. UTEP is a major research university. In fact, they ranked second in the nation for federal research spending among University of Texas academic institutions. UTEP also houses the Sun Bowl Stadium, which is used for the annual Sun Bowl college football competition.

UTEP is one of only six schools nationwide that offer degrees from two top-ranked engineering colleges: Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford University and Mechanical Engineering from California Institute of Technology.
