Cumberland University is a private institution in Lebanon, Tennessee. Established in 1842, Cumberland University is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the United States. The campus features many buildings constructed during the mid-1890s as several buildings were burned down during the American Civil War. The university was chartered by the state of Tennessee in 1843 and was founded by Cumberland Presbyterian Church members who wanted to establish an institution with a college preparatory curriculum that would provide inexpensive education for ministers and other church workers as well as aspiring teachers, lawyers, doctors, civil engineers and business leaders.

We have two sororities and four fraternities, plus many other student clubs to keep your interests at heart. Our law school is the first west of the Appalachian Mountains and our beautiful campus has a historic feel with modern amenities.
