Located in the heart of downtown Des Moines, DMA offers classes and programs for students across Central Iowa. With over 25 academic transfer degrees or certificates available, DMA is committed to providing high-quality education at an affordable cost with flexible schedules and meaningful connections to the local workforce.
Des Moines Area Community College - Urban Campus was established on October 9th 1964 as part of a plan by the former Polk County Board of Education to provide additional educational opportunities for students who were not served by other institutions. The name "Urban" was chosen because it reflected both the location of the campus in downtown Des Moines and its commitment to serving urban populations.
DMACC is a community college that offers two-year degrees in fields such as business administration, health sciences, and public safety. The DMACC Urban Campus was established to serve the needs of our diverse population by offering training for employment and advancement in high demand fields. The campus emphasizes hands-on learning, digital literacy skills, and community service as part of its mission to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful today.
