Established in 1967 as part of the State’s plan to provide educational opportunities for all Mississippians and with an enrollment of over 5,000 students annually, Holmes is committed to providing quality education at an affordable cost.

Holmes Community College - Ridgeland Campus is a two-year institution of higher learning that provides education and training. The college offers Associate Degrees, Bachelor's Degrees, Certificates, Diplomas and Technical Courses in Arts & Sciences; Business Administration; Health Professions; Industrial Technology; Engineering Technologies; Education and Social Services.

Holmes Community College is the only public, comprehensive community college in Mississippi. The campus opened its doors on September 16, 1967 with an enrollment of 1,200 students. Today we have over 5400 students and offer more than 130 transfer degree programs to prepare our graduates for careers in business, education, health care and public service.

 Our highly rated academics are complemented by a wide variety of student services that include personal counseling sessions and academic advising appointments; career-planning assistance; free tutoring; library resources including books, journals and electronic databases; computer labs full of software packages for word processing and easy access to online research sources such as LexisNexis Academic database; high quality fitness facilities with cardio equipment plus weight training machines

Holmes Community College is a comprehensive community college serving the educational needs of residents in Holmes County, Mississippi. The Ridgeland Campus has an enrollment of approximately 1200 students and offers Associate Degrees for transfer to four-year universities as well as career technical programs.

The story begins with two men who could not see eye to eye on how education should be conducted. One wanted a school that would be self-sufficient, while one wanted a school that would rely heavily on outside funds. The difference in opinion resulted in the founding of two separate schools: the Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College (MAMC) in 1878 and then the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in 1880.
