Howard College has been a leader in the education of healthcare professionals for more than 100 years. We are one of only two accredited colleges in Texas that offer an associate degree and bachelor's degree program in nursing, as well as being the first to offer a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Radiologic Sciences Education. In addition to these programs, we also provide students with hands-on training through our on-campus laboratory facilities where they can work with real patients and equipment under the supervision of licensed instructors.

Founded in 1946 as a junior college, Howard became a four-year institution in 1967 and offers over 60 different associate's degree programs.

The school's mission statement is "to provide a quality education to the students of Howard County and the surrounding area."The school was founded in 1907 by local businessman James M. Howard as an alternative to public schools for rural children who were not able to attend those schools because of the distances involved.
It offers career technical courses with varying lengths, including associate degrees. It has articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities in Texas that allow credits earned at either institution to be transferred between them without loss of credit hours or grade point average.It also offers adult continuing education classes through its Workforce Development Division, which provides training certificates for both employees and
