Salve Regina University

Salve Regina University is a private institution of higher education in Newport, Rhode Island. Founded in 1934 by the Sisters of Mercy and first admitting students in 1947, it is located on 7 Gilded Age estates. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing, education, business administration, leadership studies and humanities. Salve Regina became coeducational in 1973 but still has a 70% female-to-male student ratio.
