Southeastern Louisiana University

Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) is a public institution in Hammond, Louisiana. It was founded in 1925 and classes were originally taught in Hammond High School. The campus was eventually moved to the north side of the city in 1928 and was renamed Southeastern Louisiana University. After achieving university status, the university received its current name in 1970. SLU now enrolls over 14,000 students each year and offers over 60 different degree programs. The university is organized into five colleges with 18 academic departments and is the third-largest university in the state. The campus is about 45 miles east of Baton Rouge and about 60 miles from New Orleans .

The campus sits on 790 acres of land at an elevation of 10 feet above sea level with 50 buildings totaling more than 1 million square feet that are used for teaching purposes.
