Marymount University is a private Catholic university in Arlington, Virginia, established in 1950. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary founded the school as a two-year school for women. It expanded to a four-year college in 1973 and became coeducational in 1986. The main campus is on 21 acres in North Arlington. It includes two gyms, computer labs, and six residence halls.
The Arlington location places the university across the Potomac River from Washington, DC. The university is also a member of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. This consortium allows students to enroll in courses at any of the 13 institutions in the metro DC area and access their libraries.
Marymount University offers several BSN, MSN, and DNP programs that are accredited by the CCNE and approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Nursing. BSN paths include traditional BSN, accelerated BSN, and RN to BSN. The university also offers MSN, RN to MSN, DNP, and BSN to DNP programs. An associate’s degree in nursing is also available. Students wishing to enroll in the traditional BSN program must complete the prerequisite courses, which typically include two years of liberal arts courses. The RN to BSN program is a hybrid program with online and on-campus courses.
